Q: Some people, when they criticize President Ahmed al-Sharaa, still refer to him as "Abu Mohammad al-Jolani."
Ahmad al-Sharaa: That is part of my history. First of all, I trace my roots back to the Golan, so that name reflects my heritage. It is also part of my personal journey.
I was not born a president. My path was built through more than twenty-three years of relentless work and struggle.
The history I carry is heavy—with sacrifices, with blood, with many martyrs, with the cries and suffering of countless people.
I am not ashamed of that history. On the contrary, I am proud of it. It has become, in one way or another, part of Syria's heritage.
