Finland moved a step closer to opening the world's first permanent spent nuclear fuel disposal facility. The Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority concluded that Posiva's facility meets all safety requirements and supports granting an operating licence through 2070. The government is expected to review the licence this autumn.
